Unique both as a Chinese musical and in its depiction of Zhuang minorities, Third Sister Liu, tells the story of a spirited peasant girl who organizes villagers against their greedy landlord. The heroine inspires the townspeople with her songs, while managing to draw the attention of an attractive man into the bargain. Set in the beautiful landscapes of Guangxi Province, the upbeat and often comic film includes a number of songs that have since become very popular throughout China.
